Who We Are

Dave Cain, Your Leadership Coach

Dave Cain – the Principal and owner of Cain Consulting Inc. – began his leadership journey in 1979 as an undergraduate resident assistant.

One of the most memorable lessons he learned from that experience was that listening is a powerful and extremely important part of being successful as a new leader – a lesson that was not to be forgotten.

Starting in 1979, Dave began a career that included first level supervision, department management, and production management in a variety of industries – in union as well as non-union environments. In 2006, he made the transition into the world of professional performance coaching, leveraging the invaluable lessons learned throughout 27 years of leadership experience and assisting other leaders and teams to improve their effectiveness and performance.

In that time, he developed a passion for helping leaders to grow and improve, believing that everyone wants to succeed but that they may not have the proper skills to do so.

Dave Cain - Leadership Coach

Our Mission

The goal of performance coaching at CCI is to help you achieve and exceed your professional or organizational goals and objectives by coaching you to become the most effective leader you can possibly be.

What do we mean by effectiveness? Effectiveness can be determined by how well you are achieving your goals and objectives.

Professional International Performance Coach

Since 2006, Dave has been a performance coach. He motivates leaders and teams to improve their performance, while also helping them discover and create themselves as they establish their own leadership legacy. Dave plays an active role in facilitating a wide variety of experiences for groups, teams, and departments (from 2 to 120 people); these experiences incorporate effective communication and performance, which guides teams throughout their journey toward vastly improved results.

Dave’s international coaching journey has taken place on three continents, which include North America (from offshore in the Gulf of Mexico to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska), Africa (Nigeria), and Asia (Thailand, South Korea and United Arab Emirates).

What is Leadership?

At Cain Consulting, Inc., we believe that true leaders are made – not born.  Possessing all the necessary leadership skills is not some naturally occurring event. There are few people today who have the necessary skills to lead people and organizations to achieve sustainable results without the benefit of leadership education, coaching, or training.

Achieving desired results in any organization begins with leadership. Leadership means having the right people with the proper skills and qualifications doing the right things. Being a leader means that when you stop and turn around, there are people there ready to follow you. Being a leader involves being dedicated to self-awareness, to learning, to skill enhancement, and to the belief that your results will come through your investment in the people following you.

At CCI, we specialize in coaching leaders and those who want to become leaders to help them develop the proper skills and behaviors to better their performance and get the results they want.

Journey to Leadership Coaching

Lourdes University

Given the opportunity to contribute as an adjunct instructor at—what was then—Lourdes College, he continued to develop his own leadership skillset by helping others study Leadership and Management at the collegiate level. Dave provided a uniquely interactive experience and received excellent reviews from students and the administration for providing an outstanding learning experience.

Bowling Green State University

The opportunity to formally study how effective organizations function and develop was the perfect way to formulate the lessons Dave had learned over the years; academia gave him a platform to apply these lessons in a challenging, but supportive instructional environment. The Master of Organization Development experience at Bowling Green State University filled an important missing piece in his leadership development journey. Many great lessons were learned from peer professionals and a world-class group of professors with extensive field experience to guide the cohort’s curiosity, thinking, and learning.

United States Navy

The next step in his journey was his service in the United States Navy. Serving with VS-22 out of Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Florida, he made two Sixth Fleet deployments aboard U.S.S. John F. Kennedy (CV-67). During this time, he earned a Navy Achievement Medal—Meritorious Unit Commendation—and qualified as an Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist.

This experience provided amazing lessons on how people respond and what they need in order to be successful. He experienced first-hand that there is pure magic in the formula that transitions young adults into highly functioning military professionals in just a few short months of training.

Most importantly, he discovered there are lessons in that formula for the private sector to observe, learn from, and leverage.
